Supervisor: Ryan "Walrus" Wallis

Where are you from, where did you grow up, family, etc:

I grew up in Peekskill, NY, a small city just up the Hudson River from NYC. I often travelled up and down the east coast to visit family members during my school years.

School/Major:

I went to the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, located in Syracuse, NY. I graduated in 2010 with a BS in Environmental Science.

Dream Job:

My dream job is definitely riding my mountain bike on trails all over the world.

What were you doing before coming to GBI/NCC:

In between school and my time here at GBI I lived in Syracuse, NY, and was a package sorter for UPS. It was a fast paced environment with a lot of interesting people and it was nice to get a look at the inner workings of such a large company.

Favorite place you’ve visited:

I don’t have any particular place in mind; I have been impressed with the scenery of New York, New Hampshire, and Nevada during my travels. Seeing and hearing howler monkeys in Costa Rica was an unforgettable experience for me.

What do you do on your free time:

I spend a lot of time outdoors during my free time biking and hiking. If I am not outdoors I’m usually reading, eating, or watching movies.

Most memorable moment outdoors:

Hiking the Northville-Placid trail that runs over 100 miles through the Adirondack State Park of New York.

Current Favorite Song and/or all-time favorite:

I am a big fan of ambient music. I don’t have a specific song in mind but enjoy genres such as trip hop and post-rock.

What do you Geek on (what are you really into):

I really enjoy trying to fix things that are broken. I will always attempt to learn how to fix something or perform routine maintenance on something before having someone else work on it for me. I’ve learned a little about bicycles, automobiles, and computers due to this interest.

Anything else you would like to tell us about yourself:

I am excited to be leading a crew for the Great Basin Institute and looking forward to a fun year!
