Michelle Brosius

Where are you from, where did you grow up, family, etc: I grew up in Saline, Michigan just south of Ann Arbor. I have an older sister and a younger sister.

School/Major: I went to school at Michigan State University and majored in Zoology

Dream Job: I would like to be a field biologist and travel a lot. Or a fiddle player, but that tends to be more of a side job/hobby.

What were you doing before coming to GBI/NCC: I was finishing up my degree and working in the Organic Pest Management lab at MSU. We worked in apple orchards mostly, but also in cherry and peach orchards, vineyards, and raspberries.

Favorite place you’ve visited: I’ve had some amazing experiences in Alaska.

What do you do on your free time: I play violin, run, climb, draw, read, eat good food, and I would play with my dog but she’s back in Michigan staying with a foster family for the year.

Most memorable moment outdoors: Sitting in Kanuti Hot Springs in the fall with my sister while it was misting out and the dogs were running around.

The person who inspires me most is…: A fellow fiddle player back home. She knows all the old time fiddle tunes and the old people who play them. She plays for square dances, festivals, workshops, as well as with a few up and coming folk/rock bands, and she has a beautiful voice and great stage presence. She does it all for a living, and I wish I had the guts to do that.

Current Favorite Song and/or all-time favorite: I have a current favorite album, and it’s the latest album, Feathername, by a Michigan band called The Go Rounds. Favorite song on the album is The Coo.

What do you Geek on (what are you really into): I’m pretty into plants, animals, bugs, and science in general. I also geek on music, mostly local Michigan music and old time bluegrass/fiddle tunes.
