Lacey Ellingson

Where are you from, where did you grow up, family, etc:
I grew up in Shoreview, MN, a suburb of the Twin Cities.

School/Major:
I went to school at Willamette University in Salem, OR. I got my BA in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.

Dream Job:
I would like to be a cowboy.

What were you doing before coming to GBI/NCC:
After graduating college, I moved to a town called Florissant, CO. I have spent the past two years living there working for a non-profit called the Colorado Outdoor Education Center. I was able to improve my teaching skills and knowledge of the outdoors while working as an outdoor education instructor and as the head wrangler for their horseback riding program.

Favorite place you’ve visited:
I’ve visited a lot of great places, but one spot that I’m especially fond of and would like to go back to in order to do more exploring is the town of Ouray, CO. They’ve got everything there: hot springs, rock/ice climbing, crazy old mines, and a sweet local brewery.

What do you do on your free time:
In my free time, I like to balance my hours between physically demanding activities like rock climbing, running, and horseback riding and less strenuous pursuits such as cooking, eating,  reading, and eating some more.

Most memorable moment outdoors:
Once again, I have a lot of great outdoor memories, but one of my favorites is the first time I summited a 14er. A bunch of my friends and I all got up around 4am and started up the trailhead and made the summit of Mt. Democrat  around 10am. The view was incredible and the feeling of accomplishment that I had from making it all the way up there was even better.

The person who inspires me most is…:
My former boss, Jane Sanborn. She has spent her entire life working to give kids the chance to experience the out-of-doors and connect with nature in an ever more technological world. She is a savvy businesswoman, but retains a spectacular sense of humor and down to Earth goofiness that I really admire.

Current Favorite Song and/or all-time favorite:
All-time favorite: Country Roads by John Denver

What do you Geek on (what are you really into):
I’m all about horses. They are what I miss the most right now, after moving off a ranch that had around 80 of them. I’ve been a little obsessed with them ever since my first My Little Pony.
